It’s truly no secret to anyone who knows me or follows my Instagram that I’m a bit of a barre-obsessed individual lately. Going to The Barre Code in East Lansing is something that has changed my life for the better. I am within five classes of hitting 100 total, which has been a major goal of mine ever since I started back in September.
As one might imagine, going to classes four to five times a week has helped to make a major change in my mental and physical health. I have also made friends with women who are just as crazy as I am when it comes to dutifully and enthusiastically waking up for 6am classes. But going to classes that often has meant something else: a lot of laundry.
I go through my barre clothes so quickly throughout the week that I find myself running a load of laundry at least once a week, if not twice. More often than not, I have pairs of barre socks air drying on top of the washing machine. And, as it usually happens, there are those favorite workout clothes that you wish you could just buy in bulk and wear every single time. Nothing ruins my experience exercising more than being uncomfortable, or tugging up my pants, or pulling down at my shirt.
But lately, I’ve settled into a groove now that I have discovered my desert-island must-have favorite barre clothes. Thankfully, the things I’m loving lately are as reasonably priced as they are fun to wear.
All hail the high-rise legging! Seriously, what took so long for designers to understand that high-rise leggings are more flattering and comfortable than anything else? I recently started purchasing this style from Old Navy, and they are game changers. They feel great on and help me feel held in. I adore the floral pair above, and also have them in plain black and a mesh cut-out style:
They’re often listed around $30, but with Old Navy’s frequent discounts and markdowns, they are usually a lot less. Right now, both of these styles are $17.50 each! I’m going to be keeping my eyes on Old Navy’s website for other fun, summery colors in the coming months.
When it comes to barre clothes, I have bought new pants, tops, and grippy socks lately, but I realized that I should also update my sports bras. I have been using the same ones from Target for the last 10 years, so it seemed like a good time to get a couple new ones into the rotation. I absolutely love this one from C9 Champion. It was so comfortable when I wore it to class today, and the detailing on the back is a lot of fun. This one in particular comes in a lot of colors. At $19.99, it was a good deal at Target.
Grippy socks are a must in barre class. I feel like my collection of barre socks is starting to be like my bobby pins… I find them everywhere! The bottom of my purse, in my coat pocket, in my car, in the laundry room, etc. I bought this three-pack of yoga socks from Qing on Amazon for $16.50, and they’ve been great to have in the rotation with my other barre socks. Because they’re a little thinner, I’ve found that I have been wearing them around the house, too. They were also great to wear around my parents’ house, where there is wood flooring on the main level and on the stairs. No slipping!
I also have to show love for The Barre Code’s socks, which are so cushy and comfortable to wear in class. The studio carries different seasonal styles throughout the year. I snatched up a sparkly skull pair around Halloween time, and have been tempted by the pretty pink pairs they have had this month for Valentine’s Day. These socks cost as much as the three-pack from Amazon, so they’re definitely a splurge in comparison.
Thankfully, I’ll be receiving a pair of Club 100 socks next week, so there will be a new, cushy pair in my future.
