Check out Punk Taco in Old Town

Today was considerably the most beautiful day of spring so far, which isn’t saying too much considering it was snowing this past week. Yet it was so fortunate that I had lunch plans with my friend Jen today in Old Town, because today was the perfect day to visit the newly opened Punk Taco.

I can always count on Jen to suggest a new and fun place around the Lansing area to check out; our last outing was to The Crafted Bean in Lansing.

Punk Taco is the latest restaurant from the restaurant development company also responsible for some of my other favorite spots in Lansing, including The Cosmos, Zoobie’s, and The Creole.

Punk Taco, located in the spot right next to the new Creole Burger Bar & Southern Kitchen, has a very cool vibe.

The space features exposed brick, a painting of a mosh pit, and communal seating. When I took a peek inside this past Saturday during the Taste and Tour of Old Town, the restaurant was packed. Pretty great for only being open a week.

Punk Taco offers a variety of tacos made with homemade tortillas, as well as nachos, tamales, and fresh margaritas. I will definitely be coming back for an evening date with Zack to try one of those on the patio this summer.

I tried the Chipotle Chicken and Tequila Chorizo tacos, and ordered Margot a bean and queso taco from the Small Hooligans kids menu, minus the beans.

As you can see, I took a bite of my Chipotle Chicken taco before I could take a picture, because it was so delicious. Both tacos were great, but I give the edge to the Chipotle Chicken taco for its textures and flavors. This is a YUM.

Jen ordered a crab taco, along with some of Punk Taco’s delicious homemade chips and salsa.

Margot enjoyed the chips and her little queso taco. It was fun to share our table area with some other little ones who were loving the food and the rock music in the background.

I think that Punk Taco is a perfect addition to the great dining options around Old Town. What I loved in particular was that we had our food within about five minutes of ordering and sitting down, even though the restaurant was relatively full. This is a great spot to grab a quick bite and enjoy a fun ambiance.

I can’t wait to go back and try more!

Punk Taco is located at 1216 Turner Street in Lansing. They are open 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday.

Always a fun time with Jen 🙂
