Favorite Costco finds in January

Costco is a magical place. For years, Zack and I have had a membership, but our visits were limited to the location near my parents’ house. Despite great reviews about their freshly prepped foods and prices on staples like eggs and milk, we often stuck with frozen foods and paper products due to the distance from home. That, and treating ourselves to the $1.50 hot dog combo, obviously.

That is, until this past year.

Finally, the Lansing area was blessed with a Costco this past fall, and we’ve been able to enjoy frequent visits ever since. While weekends are very busy, I’ve enjoyed a couple of low-key visits with Margot on weekday afternoons, and it is eerily quiet in there. Margot also doesn’t have to throw elbows when it comes to grabbing samples, so that’s a plus.

Our proximity to the new Costco has opened up a world of possibilities as far as trying out fresh food products, and even venturing into the center aisles of clothing items. Wow there’s a whole new world in there.

Here are some of my favorite Costco finds from this month, including a ready-to-make meat Korean BBQ dish that I’ve turned a few friends onto the last couple of weeks.

What: Beef Bulgogi, a Korean BBQ style meat, approximately $17-18 depending on weight
WhereIn the refrigerated meat section, near the shrimp
WhyThis sweet and flavorful meat cooks up in about 10 minutes in a skillet, and is ready to go with some rice. This portion makes about four or five good-sized portions. We tried this from one of the sample people and it was so good we had to buy it right then and there.

What: Frankly Fresh Chicken Breast Burrito Bowl (comes in set of three), approximately $12
Where: Near the hummus in the shorter fresh food aisles, although (to my horror) it wasn’t there the second time I went to get it
Why: These burrito bowls are less than 400 calories and tasted so fresh, especially in comparison to their frozen counterparts. I loved having these as a healthy and quick lunch option during the week. The chicken was so yummy!

What: Champion ladies’ french terry jogger pants, $12.99
WhereRight off the entrance to the left, and online here
WhyI’m getting to be a big believer in this athleisure trend. As I joked in my Instastory earlier today, I felt like I was like the young people wearing these joggers. I love these dark gray ones. They have a little white pattern on them that makes them look less like A.C. Slater’s gym sweats and more like a patterned legging. Mine fit pretty short (tall girl life), but with the warmer temps this weekend, I’m not minding the bare ankles.

These are some of my faves this month. What are you favorite things to find at Costco?
