As the days are warming up, it’s finally feeling like the perfect time to get a scoop of ice cream. In our area, there are a ton of delicious options (hello, MSU Dairy Store and Tasty Twist), but many of those spots aren’t very close to our house.
So when I saw a Baskin-Robbins sign pop up in the plaza along Grand River Ave. near Marsh Rd., I rejoiced. This location is the first one in the Lansing area in seven years. When we were in college, Zack and I often went to the one in East Lansing before it closed. And best of all, this location is very close to where we live.
Baskin-Robbins was our go-to when I was growing up and my family lived in Farmington Hills. I remember so many summer nights stopping at the location at Orchard Lake and 13 Mile Road. My most favorite flavor in the world from there is their practically perfect in every way mint chocolate chip.
The Okemos location just opened this past Thursday, and even though today was a pretty cloudy, 60-degree day, the place was very busy. I was really happy to see so many people there, and the staff seemed happy and excited.
They did a really great job making the place bright and fun, with pink walls and screens showing a slide show of their delicious ice cream cakes. Those mint chocolate chip ice cream roll cakes were my JAM for birthdays.
Baskin-Robbins is a very welcome addition to the Okemos area. I’m sure we’ll be making stops there throughout the summer this year.
